With the activities that have been recently occurring in the Las Vegas area, including all manner of shootings and even explosions in one example, there has been all manner of reason for concern among Las Vegas residents and Las Vegas hotel and casino establishment proprietors about the rising crime rate and the effect of the perception of violent crime on visitors to the Las Vegas area. With the draw on visitors of the Las Vegas shows and Las Vegas attractions in the world-famous gambling mecca in the desert, it is important for gambling and gaming establishments to project a strong image of security and safety for their visitors and vacationing Las Vegas gaming and gambling tourists in general. With the effect of the media of blowing any type of violent crime and activity out of proportion all over the news, it is easy to see why there is such an exaggeration of the actual events in these types of incidents in Las Vegas. In all reality, the crime rate in Las Vegas is no higher than the crime rate in cities of comparable size, but this type of media sensationalizing can cause these types of events to get blown completely out of proportion.
Considering the effect of the media on the world at large and their ability to stir up all manner of attention and speculation when it comes to the type of reporting that is conducted, it is easy to see how these otherwise minor events can be tied together and magnified in the public eye to seem as if Las Vegas has an exploding crime rate. This is common of most television and radio media, as their ratings are based on how often and how long they can keep their viewers tuned in. Without viewers, ratings would dwindle. Without some type of shocking new story to keep the viewer's attention, there simply would be no ratings and viewers would not bother to tune in at all. This is a common trend and is not exclusive to the Las Vegas area.
While it is unfortunate that these types of criminal activities occurred at all, it is important to note that the level of violent crime in Las Vegas is actually somewhat lower than normal for a city its size, due largely in part to the extremely effective amount of security and safety measures that the Las Vegas hotels and casinos take to protect their customers both inside and outside the world-famous Las Vegas shows and Las Vegas attractions.
